Invest in multiple sectors
Triodos Investment Management launches a new and unique fund: Triodos Multi Impact Fund. This fund-of-funds offers retail investors the much sought after opportunity to make their money work in multiple sectors that are all key in the transition to a fairer and more sustainable world. Triodos Multi Impact Fund has a diversified portfolio of impact investments through investing in a selection of Triodos investment funds (70%) and in Impact Bonds (30%) selected by Triodos Research. At first, Triodos Multi Impact Fund will be available in the Netherlands via Triodos Bank Netherlands and Rabobank, followed – at a later stage – by other third party distributors.
‘The participation of retail investors in impact investments is vital for the long-term success of the impact investment market.’
Marilou van Golstein Brouwers
The fund builds on the solid expertise, deep sector insights and long-term relationships that Triodos Investment Management has built up in the past 20 years. These sectors include renewable energy, organic agriculture, inclusive finance, arts and culture, and sustainable trade. Furthermore, Triodos Multi Impact Fund has a truly global outreach by investing in both Europe and in developing and emerging economies.
With the launch of Triodos Multi Impact Fund, Triodos Investment Management maintains that impact investments should evolve inclusively, ensuring that everyone – also the retail investor – has the possibility to invest in entrepreneurial ideas and activities that benefit society. Marilou van Golstein Brouwers, Managing Director Triodos Investment Management: ‘The participation of retail investors in impact investments is vital for the long-term success of the impact investment market. We see that a rising number of people are aware of the positive impact their money can have and are looking for ways to do this in a straightforward and direct way.’
Triodos Multi Impact Fund invests for about 70% in the following Triodos investment funds and products:
- Triodos Microfinance Fund
- Triodos Fair Share Fund
- Triodos Groenfonds (Triodos Green Fund)
- Triodos Renewables Europe Fund
- Triodos Cultuurfonds (Triodos Culture Fund)
- Triodos Organic Growth Fund
- Triodos Sustainable Trade Fund
Until now, several of these funds were open to professional investors only. This selection allows retail investors to make their money also work for new impact themes such as sustainable trade and European frontrunners in sustainable consumer businesses.
Triodos Multi Impact Fund has a truly global outreach by investing in both Europe and in developing and emerging economies.
The remaining 30% is invested in Impact Bonds, which is also a new impact theme for retail investors. The Impact Bonds may include green bonds, social bonds and blue impact bonds, and are meticulously screened and selected by Triodos Research. Key elements of this process:
- the proceeds of the impact bonds need to be invested in projects that contribute to healthy people, climate protection and/or a clean planet
- the activities are supported by the issuer’s corporate strategy, and
- the sustainability of the projects financed are measurable.
Risk, return, impact and liquidity
The strategic asset allocation of Triodos Multi Impact Fund is based on four guiding principles for portfolio construction: risk, return, impact and liquidity. The fund is predominantly a fixed income fund with a small allocation to public and private equity. As quite a number of impact investment strategies lead to investments in illiquid markets and/or assets classes (direct loans/private equity), liquidity management features as an important investment overlay. Investing 30% of Triodos Multi Impact Fund’s total assets in euro-denominated Impact Bonds contributes to the fund’s daily liquidity. The strategic asset allocation therefore ensures daily liquidity for investors, a balanced risk-return profile and multiple impact.
Triodos Multi Impact Fund will be traded via Euronext Fund Service as per 1 December 2015. Introduction price: EUR 25.00.
Triodos Investment Management is a globally recognised leader in impact investing with total assets under management of EUR 2.9 billion (as per 30 June 2015). Triodos Investment Management manages 15 sustainable investment funds that each invest in different sustainability themes and/or have different risk-returns profiles.
